Season 2 | Episode 11: A BROOD OF CUCKOSS

Pipì, Pupù & Rosemary

Nature/Animation, Italy 2007

Pipì, Pupù and Rosmary have hitched a ride on a turtle but since it travels too slowly, they decide to get off its back and walk. On their hike they find some eggs that they can eat, and as they are about to taste them, little cuckoo chicks fall out of the tree above them, whereupon Pupù decides he’d rather not eat eggs. When the mother cuckoo returns to the nest she is alarmed at not finding her little ones waiting for her, and when she looks down she sees her chicks and our friends getting ready to eat the egg. The cuckoo flies down and after having scolded her little ones for wanting to eat the egg although they knew full well it would give them diarrhea, she thanks Pipì, Pupù and Rosmary for having looked after them and, to repay the kindness, she accepts Pupù’s request to spend some time in the nest with her. While Pupù is enjoying his reward, however, a huge crow arrives that wants to eat all the little birds in the nest. But Rosmary and Pipì, after first having thrown stones at the intruder, manage to convince the crow to try and taste the egg rather than eat the chicks which, admittedly, is not really a nice thing to do. The crow accepts, not knowing that the egg has a rather unpleasant effect on the intestines and indeed the crow, shortly after having eaten the egg, now has to look after itself and its nasty tummy ache and can no longer harm the chicks in the nest.
